A MAN has died after falling from the top of a 15 ft Christmas tree he climbed yesterday morning.

The alarm was raised shortly before 3am after the man, thought to be in his 50s, was seen falling from the top of the fir tree by people leaving a nearby nightclub in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

He was taken to Victoria Hospital in the town where he died of his injuries.

Mario Caira, the owner of Kitty’s nightclub, who witnessed the accident outside Kirkcaldy Town House, said: “He’d climbed the tree, he was up in the tree holding on to the top. When he fell I thought he was actually winded.

“I went over to check on the guy and when he wasn’t coming round I phoned an ambulance. It’s just a tragedy.”

Mr Caira said the man appeared to be by himself and had not visited the club.

Lesley Laird, the town’s MP, said: “This is tragic news, especially at Christmas, and my thoughts are with the man’s family and friends.”

Police Scotland was not treating the death as suspicious, a spokesman said.
