Lovely ties had by all

-

Sir – I intend to compliment every man I meet wearing a tie over Christmas on how good he looks (Letters, December 14). Maybe flattery will win the day.

Sir – David Chapman (Letters, December 13) describes ties that “stripe to the heart” (the wearer’s left) as “American”. This will not go down well with the Intelligence Corps, the Royal Air Force or numerous other great British institutions whose ties do precisely that.

Sir – Donald Trump is often seen wearing the old-boys’ tie of my prep school, Craigflower in Fife (now sadly defunct). I don’t remember him, though.
