Four weddings, a funeral – and no facelifts

-

Twenty-five years after it hit cinema screens, Four Weddings and a Funeral is making a comeback, in the form of a minisequel for Comic Relief. About time, too. Britain is on the verge of falling apart and we need that Richard Curtis magic more than ever.

What cheered me most, however, is just how much better all the actors and actresses looked. Age has not withered Hugh Grant, Andie Macdowell, David Haig, Sophie Thompson or Anna Chancellor. Like fine wines, they have improved with the passing of time. Check out James Fleet, who played the bumbling Tom in the original, and is now something of a handsome devil (am I allowed to say that? I just have).

All seem to have embraced their age, rather than fighting against it in a very Hollywood way and getting facelifts. The more I look at their pictures, the more I think that, far from being something to be scared of, ageing is actually a complete and utter delight.
