Abu Hamza’s son on gun charge after bouncer’s death
THE son of Abu Hamza, the notorious hate preacher, has been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a doorman outside a Mayfair “sex party”.
Imran Mostafa Kamel, whose father is imprisoned in a high-security US prison, appeared in court yesterday after being questioned over the killing of Tudor Simionov on New Year’s Eve.
The bouncer was trying to stop a group of men entering a private event on Park Lane when he was stabbed in the chest. The 33-year-old died in the arms of a colleague.
Police arrested Mr Kamel, 26, at his west London home on New Year’s Day. The Daily Telegraph understands that he is the sixth child of Hamza, the hook-handed former imam who preached at Finsbury Park mosque.
In the US in October 2015, Hamza was convicted of terrorism and kidnapping and given a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Since then he has been kept in solitary confinement.
Mr Kamel appeared at Westminster magistrates’ court yesterday charged with “possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or danger”, and spoke only to confirm his name.
A police spokesman said the alleged firearms offences were “not directly connected” to Mr Simionov’s death. No gunshots were heard during the attack, the spokesman added.
Mr Simionov, who was engaged to be married, had moved from Romania to Britain for a better life only a few weeks before his murder.
It is understood that he died protecting wealthy guests at a “sex party” arranged by the self-styled aristocrat “Lord” Eddie Davenport, a convicted fraudster.
Last night Mr Davenport’s lawyer denied his client was in charge of the party, adding: “He’s not saying he was there, but he’s not saying he wasn’t.”
Police are reviewing footage of the attack, which shows Mr Simionov grappling with a number of men on the street.
Colleagues told how Mr Simionov had been stationed inside the event and came outside to protect other staff.
