Royal British Legion opens LGBT wing

The Royal British Legion is launching its first LGBT branch to help tackle the isolation felt by veterans in a minority community.

The new national branch comes almost 20 years after the government lifted the ban on lesbians, gay men and bisexual people serving in the Armed Forces.

Emma Cannings, the membership director, said: “We hope this new branch will commemorate the sacrifices made by LGBTQ+ veterans and serving personnel and ensure our services are accessible to all.”
