Porridge? Now inmates do brunch
The trend for eating brunch has caught on at the prison where the television comedy Porridge was filmed, inspectors found.
Staff at HMP Chelmsford in Essex renamed lunch to tempt more inmates to eat together, rather than spend their £2 daily allowance at the tuck shop.
After a breakfast of crackers and jam or cereal, inmates now eat brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. It is believed to include cheese on toast and pancakes. An Independent Monitoring Board report said the brunch was “very popular”.
