Pol­ish mayor stabbed in front of hun­dreds

The mayor of the Pol­ish port city of Gdansk was stabbed in front of hun­dreds of peo­ple at a char­ity event yes­ter­day.

Pawel Adamow­icz, 53, was taken to hos­pi­tal after the at­tacker was quickly ap­pre­hended by se­cu­rity guards and ar­rested by po­lice. Doc­tors later said his con­di­tion was “very se­ri­ous”.

A video of the at­tack posted on Youtube showed the man, 27, burst­ing on to the podium, stab­bing the mayor, then seiz­ing the mi­cro­phone and claim­ing to have been wrongly jailed and tor­tured.
