Polish mayor stabbed in front of hundreds
The mayor of the Polish port city of Gdansk was stabbed in front of hundreds of people at a charity event yesterday.
Pawel Adamowicz, 53, was taken to hospital after the attacker was quickly apprehended by security guards and arrested by police. Doctors later said his condition was “very serious”.
A video of the attack posted on Youtube showed the man, 27, bursting on to the podium, stabbing the mayor, then seizing the microphone and claiming to have been wrongly jailed and tortured.
