 After a dodgy second run, Nic Pizzolatto’s grim crime drama returns on much surer ground. Mahershala Ali stars as Wayne Hays, an Arkansas detective looking into a child murder that happened in the Eighties. As the feted first series did, the action cuts across different eras. Ali, in one of his finest performances, knits together the strands in style. TD
