Gang shot random student and rapped about it in drill song

-

TWO gang members who carried out a shotgun murder on an innocent student and then glorified the killing in “drill” rap lyrics have been jailed for at least 58 years.

Russell Jordan Jones, 23, was standing with friends outside a parade of shops in South Street, Enfield, when he was shot with a 12-bore shotgun in the street and stabbed repeatedly.

Mr Jones, who was within weeks of finishing his degree at the University of Hertfordshire, was stabbed in the face and neck and suffered 11 more knife wounds to his chest and back. He died at the scene.

Karun Singh, his friend, was also knifed during the “sudden, violent and bloody” gang attack.

Bilkan Bilkaner and Duke Quainoo, both 20, were both jailed for life and ordered to serve at least 29 years. When police examined Quainoo’s phone following his arrest they found a series of rap lyrics about gang violence, including a number which boasted about the murder.

One lyric bragged: “Twin barrel come long and heavy had to chop that down now the weight feels nice.”

A group of four of the men comprised the killing team, each delivering at least one of the wounds to Mr Jones. The other two men are still at large, the Old Bailey heard.

Judge Mark Dennis QC told the men they had been seduced by “an urban culture which embraces violence and criminality”.

He added: “The victims were picked on at random for no better reason than the fact they were standing together in the street late at night in an area considered to be rival territory.”
