In 1913, Queen Alexandra attended the first Chelsea Flower Show. In 1930, King George V and Queen Mary paid an official royal visit.

In 1952, the Queen became patron and has attended nearly every year since

In 2001, the Prince of Wales won a silver medal for an Arabic-influenced Carpet Garden, which drew on his interests in Islamic culture.

In 2002, his entry Healing Garden, dedicated to his grandmothe­r, the Queen Mother, in the year she died, was awarded the silver Flora medal in the Best Show Garden category.

In 2013, Prince Harry commission­ed the installati­on of the Sentebale Forget-me-not Garden, interprete­d as a memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales. It won a silver gilt medal.

In 2015, he gave the Queen a tour of another Sentebale garden, based on flowers from Lesotho, where the charity is based.
