In 1913, Queen Alexandra attended the first Chelsea Flower Show. In 1930, King George V and Queen Mary paid an official royal visit.

In 2001, the Prince of Wales won a silver medal for an Arabic-influenced Carpet Garden, which drew on his interests in Islamic culture.
In 2002, his entry Healing Garden, dedicated to his grandmother, the Queen Mother, in the year she died, was awarded the silver Flora medal in the Best Show Garden category.
In 2013, Prince Harry commissioned the installation of the Sentebale Forget-me-not Garden, interpreted as a memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales. It won a silver gilt medal.
In 2015, he gave the Queen a tour of another Sentebale garden, based on flowers from Lesotho, where the charity is based.
