NEW GRAND DUCHESS

-

Telegraphing from Luxembourg on Tuesday, Reuters’ correspondent states that, following on the abdication of the Grand Duchess Marie Adelaide, the Luxembourg Chamber, by 30 votes to 19, decided to appoint at once a delegation to receive the oath of her sister and successor, Princess Charlotte. The new Grand Duchess will be 23 years of age on the 23rd inst., and is the second of the five daughters of the late Grand Duke William, who died in 1912. A telegram from Metz, received in Paris yesterday, asserts that the Grand Duchess Charlotte was formally betrothed on Tuesday to Prince Felix of Bourbon-parma, aged 25, a lieutenant in the Austrian army, and younger brother of the ex-empress of Austria. Her sister, the deposed Grand Duchess Marie Adelaide, was engaged recently to the Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria, a widower nearly twice her own age. But after the utter defeat of the German armies and the revolution in Bavaria, this engagement was declared at an end.
