BUCKINGHAM PALACE January 17th

The Duke of York, Royal Colonel, The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, this morning presented Operationa­l Service Medals to soldiers on their return from Iraq at Glencorse Barracks, Penicuik, and was received by Lieutenant Colonel Richard Callander (Vice Lord-lieutenant of Midlothian).

BUCKINGHAM PALACE January 17th

The Countess of Wessex this afternoon received General Sir Gordon Messenger (Vice Chief of the Defence Staff) at St James’s Palace.

Her Royal Highness afterwards received Professor Christine Chinkin (Founding Director, Centre for Women, Peace and Security, London School of Economics and Political Science).

The Countess of Wessex subsequent­ly received the Lord Adonis (Patron, Frontline) and Mr Joshua Macalister (Founder and Chief Executive).

Her Royal Highness this evening attended a Dinner given by the Born Free Foundation at the Hari Hotel, 20 Chesham Place, London SW1, to celebrate the Foundation’s Thirty Fifth Anniversar­y.

The Princess Royal, President, UK Fashion and Textile Associatio­n, this morning visited New Balance Athletic Shoes United Kingdom Limited, St Helens Lane, Flimby, and was received by Colonel Thomas Mcmullen (Deputy Lieutenant of Cumbria).

Her Royal Highness later opened the Hub for Project John, 20-24 Cavendish Street, Barrowin-furness, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-lieutenant of Cumbria (Mrs Peter Hensman).

The Princess Royal this afternoon visited Barrow Foodbank, Abbey Road Baptist Church, Abbey Road, Barrow-infurness.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, Save the Children United Kingdom, later visited a shop at 11 Market Street, Kirkby Lonsdale, and was received by Mr Henry Bowring (Deputy Lieutenant of Cumbria).
