The three men who overturned a High Court ruling denying Sir Philip Green an injunction against The

Telegraph made their ruling in October.

♦ Sir Terence Etherton is the Master of the Rolls, outranked only by the Lord Chief Justice.

He oversaw the first Court of Appeal case to be live-streamed on the internet – between West Ham United and the operator of the London Stadium in November.

In August last year, Sir Terence, along with two other judges, overturned a High Court ruling that struck off Dr Hadiza Bawagarba, a junior paediatrician convicted of gross negligence manslaughter in 2015 over the death of Jack Adcock, six, who died of sepsis in 2011. Dr Bawagarba was instead given a one-year suspension.

Sir Terence, who became a QC in 1990 and has worked as a chancery lawyer, formerly served as a High Court judge and was chairman of the Law Commission of England and Wales from 2006-09. He joined the Court of Appeal in 2008 and, as Britain’s first openly gay senior judge, said: “My appointment shows that diversity in sexuality is not a bar to preferment up to the highest levels of the judiciary.”

Sir Terence was a member of the British Olympic fencing team in the late Seventies. He was selected for the 1980 Moscow Olympics, but pulled out over Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan.

♦ Lord Justice Henderson was born Launcelot Dinadan James Henderson, becoming “Sir Launcelot” upon being appointed a High Court Judge of the Chancery Division in 2007.

The son of the late Baron Henderson of Brompton, who was Clerk of the Parliaments from 1974-83, the 67-year-old was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2016.

♦ Lord Justice Underhill served as Attorney General to the Prince of Wales between 1998 and 2006.

Appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2013, he witnessed an acid attack in his own courtroom five years earlier, in which a lawyer suffered burns to his eye. He gave evidence and the perpetrator was jailed indefinitely.
