St Andrews University science building ablaze

More than 30 firefighters were last night tackling a major blaze at a University of St Andrews science building in the North Haugh area of the Fife town.

Eight appliances and police responded to reports of a fire involving suspected hazardous materials at just before 5pm.

Images on social media showed flames in the windows of the building.

The university said there were no reports of injuries, adding: “The Biomedical Sciences building at the University of St Andrews has suffered a serious fire late this afternoon.”
