SIR – On the subject of out-of-date road signs (Letters, February 9), if you drive out of Dorchester towards Weymouth you will see an official council sign, neatly screwed to the direction signboard by the bypass, reading: “Weymouth International Beach Race 27-28th February 2016.” Terry Putnam

SIR – Some road signs are pointless. Two years ago a new roundabout was built near me. For several months a sign reading “New roundabout ahead” sat at the side of the road.

To what end? Locals knew it was there – they had seen it being built. Strangers did not need to know it was new – they merely saw a roundabout. Bryan Montgomery
