Not delivering

-

SIR – I sympathise with Sarah Henwood (Letters, February 23). I am the intended recipient of a “special delivery” packet (£6.50), guaranteed to be delivered on February 8.

I am still waiting. It is apparently marooned in the Gatwick Mail Centre. My letter (recorded delivery) to the CEO at Gatwick on February 20 has elicited not even an acknowledgment. Dixon Pickup

SIR – Having heard about teething troubles with the first generation of smart meters, I waited for the second generation. In November 2018 British Gas wrote to say it would be in my area to install second-generation meters.

I booked an appointment for February 7, leaving my husband at home to let the installers in. They arrived and asked for me. My husband told them I was at work and he was there to oversee the installation. They refused to install the meter as I was not there in person.

They left saying British Gas would be in touch. So far not a word.

I am completely baffled by this. Delia Madden

SIR – Banks now process cheques by machine. If there are any discrepancies, a cheque is destroyed.

How many of your readers are known not by their first name, but by their middle name? Despite 30 years of my bank knowing me by the name I use, they no longer accept cheques in that name, as it is not my first name.

I have been forced to change my name by deed poll to satisfy my bank’s computers. Sarah Whitaker
