Action taken ‘too late’

-

The daughter of Sir Nicholas Winton, who was quoted by Theresa May outside Downing Street yesterday, has suggested his advice on “compromise” should have been embraced earlier in the Brexit process.

Sir Nicholas, a constituent of Mrs May, helped to organise Kindertransport that saved 669 mostly Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia.

Mrs May said “he was right” when he once told her: “Never forget that compromise is not a dirty word. Life depends on compromise.”

Last night, Barbara Winton told The Daily Telegraph: “If that divide [between Leave and Remain] had been reached across at the beginning, maybe things would have been different.”
