25 families to be evicted for not being gipsies

Families living on two caravan sites in the east Midlands face eviction because they are not gipsies.

Residents of mobile homes on Field View Park and the Old Stables in Enderby, Leics, are to be ordered to leave within a month.

The sites were approved for traveller use in 2006. When the owners applied for permission for non-travellers to live there it was refused by Blaby district council.

It ruled that they were “unlawfully renting mobile homes in breach of the planning permission”.

The 25 families who are to lose their homes have claimed they are being “discriminated against” for not being members of the travelling community, which they said was a “form of racism”.
