Record numbers plan summer getaway today

-

Holidaymakers are urged to allow an extra 90 minutes for journeys this weekend as they face the busiest summer getaway in five years.

Record numbers plan to hit the roads, taking advantage of the good weather forecast for next week.

Around 5 million trips are planned for today, with a further 3.4million tomorrow, according to the RAC.

Data from Inrix, the traffic analysts, suggests parts of the M1 southbound and the M25 anticlockwise will be the worst affected, while a 16-day closure of a major railway junction on the West Coast Main Line begins today.
