Coffee helps to cut the risk of gallstones

-

♦ Drinking six or more cups of coffee a day reduces the risk of gallstones, according to a study of more than 100,000 adults. The high intake of caffeine was found to reduce the painful ailment by 23 per cent compared to those who did not drink any coffee at all.

A team from the Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark analysed official data from over 13 years. Drinking just one cup a day lowered the risk of gallstones by three per cent but the protective properties of caffeine increased dramatically when gulping down several cups a day, the researchers told the Journal of Internal Medicine.
