Train sped at 80mph with its door open

♦ A train travelled at 80mph for 23 minutes while its door was open, an accident investigation report has found.

The train, travelling to Southend Victoria from Liverpool Street on Aug 22, moved for 16 miles before the breach was flagged. A passenger reported the half-unlocked door to the driver at Hockley station, Essex, at 7.20am.

About 20 people were on board the Greater Anglia service but no one was injured.

The rail company said it had immediately taken the train out of service and had since checked every set of doors on the type of train in question.
