ELLEN WHITE’S SIX WORLD CUP GOALS
1
v SCOTLAND, FIRST GROUP-STAGE GAME (FINAL SCORE: 2-1, SECOND GOAL) After having a goal disallowed for offside earlier in the match, White gave England a 2-0 lead by picking up a
loose ball in the box and bending it into the back of the net uncontested.
2
v JAPAN, THIRD GROUP-STAGE GAME (FINAL SCORE: 2-0, FIRST GOAL) A Georgia Stanway pass gave White (right) acres of space with just the keeper to beat. She kept her composure to clip the ball past the Japanese No 1 and send it trundling into the bottom corner.
3
v JAPAN, THIRD GROUP-STAGE GAME (FINAL SCORE: 2-0, SECOND GOAL) Her late strike sealed the win, when a Karen Carney pass fell at White’s feet as she made a well-timed run. Under pressure, she lunged at the ball to slot it into the back of the net.
4
v CAMEROON, LAST 16 (FINAL SCORE: 3-0, SECOND GOAL) A clever touch from Lucy Bronze created space for White in the centre of the box. She turned and scored with her left, and although her celebrations were halted when the flag went up, a VAR review gave her the goal – and sparked Cameroon’s infamous protestations.
5
v NORWAY, QUARTERFINAL (FINAL SCORE: 3-0, SECOND GOAL) After hitting the post, White was gifted a tap-in by Nikita Parris in the 40th minute. Her team-mate’s excellent run down the right and pass into the box left the surging White with little to do, but allowed her to celebrate (left) becoming England’s record World Cup goalscorer.
6
v UNITED STATES, SEMI-FINAL (FINAL SCORE: 1-2) It was another case of perfect positioning from White as a sublime delivery into the box by Beth Mead helped her equalise from close range.
