Tory tribes The factions facing off over Brexit

The Rebels: 27 A group made up of MPS who have either had the whip withdrawn for disloyalty on legislatio­n to extend Article 50, or have announced that they will stand down because of the Government’s stance on Brexit. David Gauke, Philip Hammond, Nicholas Soames and Ken Clarke have had the whip removed, while Justine Greening and Jo Johnson voted with the Government, but said they will stand down.

One Nation Tories: about 150 A group of Tories who voted Remain in the referendum and would prefer for the UK to leave the EU with a deal, but did not vote against the Government.

Around 100 of these MPS, led by Damian Green in a group called the One Nation Caucus, demanded the Prime Minister reinstate the 21 rebels who voted against him. Loyal Brexiteers: about 130 A sizeable portion, including 80 or so of the European Research Group of MPS, believes the UK should come out of the EU with or without a deal on Oct 31.
