Police hunt for the ‘Holborn headbutter’

- By Jamie Johnson

A CYCLIST labelled the “Holborn headbutter” is being hunted by police after attacking a City worker who confronted him over jumping a red light.

The 57-year-old victim, who narrowly avoided being run down by the cyclist as he crossed the road, was left needing stitches for a cut above his eye following the attack on Aug 22.

The City of London Police yesterday released CCTV footage of the confrontation in Farringdon Street, central London.

The incident will bring back memories of the “Putney pusher”, a ruuner who escaped justice after shoving a woman in front of a bus in London in May 2017.

Officers are hunting the cyclist, described as “a white man in his 40s, around 5ft 10ins, of medium build, with short greying hair”. He was not wearing a helmet and was not riding in the cycle lane.

Travelling at speed, he narrowly missed the City worker, witnesses told The Telegraph.

The cyclist turned around and shouted aggressively at the man before charging at him and knocking him to the ground with a headbutt. The cyclist then got back on his bike and rode off.

Violmantas Voroninas, the manager of Pret A Manger nearby, helped the victim: “I could see he would need stitches. It was really nasty.”

The City of London Police hope the CCTV footage will help to identify the cyclist. They called his actions “needlessly violent”.
