‘Plant mangrove forests to fight global warming’
Nations must spend £1.5trillion to guard against climate change or pay an even heavier price later, a global commission warned yesterday.
Spending on key priorities, including the planting of mangrove forests, would fight global warming and generate $7trillion (£5.7trillion) in net benefits, the report from the Global Commission on Adaptation said. Ban Ki-moon, the former UN chief who chairs the body, said: “We are the last generation that can alter the course of climate change and we are the first generation that then has to live with the consequences.”
