Youtube: 9/11 conspiracy theory videos not harmful
CONSPIRACY theories questioning whether the 9/11 attacks happened will not be removed from Youtube as they are not considered “harmful”, the company’s new UK head has said.
Ben Mcowen Wilson said the tech giant would remove conspiracy videos when they were deemed to offend victims, citing the Sandy Hook school massacre in the US as an example.
But when challenged at the Royal Television Society conference over why the company allowed “truther” videos about the 9/11 murders of almost 3,000 people, he said: “Our position is that if those videos are available they’re not causing harm.”
He said the company had started placing “knowledge panels” next to such videos, and ensured that they did not appear in generic 9/11 searches.
