Justin Trudeau’s apologised – let’s move on

-

Justin Trudeau. How do we love thee? Let us count the ways. Without wishing to objectify the exceedingly handsome, blue-eyed and princely Canadian premier, he’s the dishiest leader on the planet by a country mile.

But right now, Trudeau is on the ropes because of a “brownface” incident, when he dressed up in a turban and darkened his skin for an Arabian Nights-themed gala at a private school where he taught in 2001. Awkward.

He’s up for re-election, which is why the damning photographic evidence of his historical (now hysterical) misdemeanour has surfaced. What were the chances?

True to form, Trudeau has gracefully apologised without bluster or self-justification. “I shouldn’t have done it. I should have known better, but I didn’t and I’m really sorry.” Should that be the end of it?

I think it should. That sort of thing could spell the end of any career, but what sort of a toxic world would we live in if a sincere apology for something that was done a long time ago isn’t accepted?
