What to watch
Arts Front Row Late BBC TWO, 11.05PM; NOT BBC SCOTLAND
Fans of darkly recognisable dystopian fiction get a treat as Mary Beard talks to author Margaret Atwood about The Testaments, her highly anticipated (and Booker Prize shortlisted) sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale.
Comedy Scarborough BBC ONE, 9.30PM
There’s no denying that Benidorm creator Derren Litten’s new comedy is lovingly conceived with even the broadest moments ringing emotionally true. Tonight’s episode sees a fed up Lisa Marie (Harriet Webb) reaching the end of her tether at the salon, while Marion (Stephanie Cole) has some advice for Mike (Jason Manford).
Documentary Inside the Vatican BBC TWO, 9.00PM; NOT BBC SCOTLAND
This two-part series which looks at life in Vatican City features everyone from the palace gardeners to the nuns running the canteen. The opening episode’s main concern is the build-up to Easter, and there are some lovely contributions from baritone Mark Spyropoulos, the first Englishman to sing in the Sistine Chapel Choir since the reformation. For all the talk of access, Pope Francis remains frustratingly just out of sight, although there is an interesting discussion over his “radical” take on the papacy.
Music Fleetwood Mac Night BBC FOUR, FROM 8.00PM
As summer slides into autumn, why not spend an evening wallowing with that most sunshine-drenched of bands, Fleetwood Mac. Kicking off with A Musical
History, in which famous fans examine the band’s appeal, the night continues with a fascinating profile of singer Christine Mcvie, before concluding with
Don’t Stop, a comprehensive documentary of the breakouts and break-ups.
