THREE EVENTS YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS MONTH
Great Britain v Chile, Olympic qualifier, Lee Valley Nov 2-3
Great Britain’s women’s hockey team have to beat Chile in a two-legged tie on home turf for the chance to defend their Olympic crown in Toyko next summer. Chile, ranked 18th in the world, are South America’s second-best women’s side but have never qualified for a World Cup. Britain have been on a dismal run since clinching gold at the Rio Games, including a heavy 8-0 defeat by Holland, now European and world champions, in August. TV: BT Sport
England v Germany, friendly, Wembley Nov 9
The Lionesses ended a five-match winless streak with a single-goal victory against Portugal this month, and Phil Neville’s side will be desperate to put in a strong performance against the world’s second-ranked team. England are set to play in front of a sell-out crowd – 90,000 tickets have been sold for the match. The previous record for an England home game was 45,619 – in an unpromising omen it was a 3-0 defeat by the same opponents back in 2014. TV: BBC One
World Para Athletics Championships, Dubai Nov 7-15
Just seven months after giving birth to her son Edward by emergency C-section, sprinter Libby Clegg (left) is one of the stars in a 21-strong female contingent for GB in the Middle East. Scotland’s Clegg won the T11 100m and 200m double at the Rio Paralympics in 2016, and will be competing at her first major championships in three years. Joining Clegg will be 10-time world champion Hannah Cockroft, and “grand slam” champions Hollie Arnold and Sophie Hahn. Hannah Taunton, Anna Nicholson and Lydia Church will all be making their senior debuts.
