The composite XV from the England and New Zealand semi-final line-ups I would select

- Sir Ian Mcgeechan Four times Lions head coach

There is an embarrassment of riches when choosing a team based on two World Cup semi-finalists, but I think eight England players is a pretty fair reflection of where they are at the moment.

Drawing the Lions tour to New Zealand in 2017 was a seminal moment in their journeys and will give England’s players huge belief heading into tomorrow’s match.

The back three pick themselves. Beauden Barrett is the world’s best fly-half and possibly the best full-back. Sevu Reece is a lethal finisher while Jonny May has pace to burn.

I’ve gone with Owen Farrell at 10 – the best goal-kicker in the world and with a big-game temperament. Aaron Smith is just incredible at nine. His passing is laser-guided and he accelerates the game so well. A joy for forwards and backs to play off.

In the centres Anton Lienertbrown is classy and clever with great awareness. His handling skills are a joy to behold. Manu Tuilagi is a force of nature.

Leaving out Dane Coles at hooker is a big shout but Jamie George is the best line-out thrower around now, and you are not losing much in the loose.

Joe Moody gets the nod over Mako Vunipola as the latter is lacking game time. Kyle Sinckler has developed into one of the most dynamic tightheads, with better control of his temper.

It is a tasty second row with Brodie Retallick, an incredible athlete, and Maro Itoje, a menacing presence with and without the ball.

It is tough to leave out Sam Underhill, but Ardie Savea has been exceptional, while Tom Curry never stops running and hitting those breakdowns.

Kieran Read was special last week, but Billy Vunipola is the best No8. His ability to carry the ball through contact keeps defenders honest.
