‘Palace threats quashed Duke-epstein story’

- By Harriet Alexander in New York

AN American news anchor has been caught on camera saying she had an explosive interview with a woman who claims Prince Andrew had sex with her as a teenager, but that the interview never aired because Buckingham Palace “threatened us a million ways”.

Amy Robach, a 46-year-old presenter with the ABC network, was filmed between live on-air segments discussing the interview.

“I am so p----- right now,” she told a person off-camera. “Every day I get more and more p----- right now, because it’s unbelievable what we had. I had it all, three years ago.”

She said that she had an interview with Virginia Roberts-giuffre, who was recruited by Jeffrey Epstein as a young girl working at the Mar-a-lago resort and became his sexual slave. She was “lent out” to friends of Epstein’s, she claims, and had sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17. The Prince has always strenuously denied her claims.

Buckingham Palace has previously said: “Any suggestion of impropriety with minors is categorically untrue.”

But Robach said that the story never ran because Buckingham Palace pressured editors at the company.

“We were so afraid we wouldn’t be able to interview Kate and Wills, and that quashed the story,” Robach said.

The story came out into the open a year ago in the Miami Herald, which showed how Epstein had been granted a lenient deal for his crimes in 2005.

Epstein was arrested on July 6 and killed himself in prison on Aug 10.

The video clip was put online by the group Project Veritas, which aims to “expose corruption and liberal bias” in mainstream media.

Robach and ABC both denied that they had “spiked” the story, and insisted that it simply did not meet journalistic standards. They did not address her claim that the Palace “leant” on them to prevent it airing.

“At the time, not all of our reporting met our standards to air,” the company said in a statement. “Ever since, we’ve had a team on this investigation. That work has led to a two-hour documentary and a six-part podcast that will air in the new year.”

Robach said she was “caught in a private moment of frustration”, but backed up her employer.

“The interview itself, while I was disappointed it didn’t air, didn’t meet our standards,” she said.

Buckingham Palace is yet to respond to The Telegraph’s request for comments on Robach’s accusations.

The Palace is believed to have told ABC in a letter that the allegations were unproven, and had been struck from the record by a judge.
