NHS Visa fees cut for foreigners

- By Christopher Hope

VISA fees will be halved for foreign doctors and nurses and cleared in just two weeks under a new NHS Visa scheme to ensure there is no shortage of medical professionals after Brexit.

Boris Johnson said he wants to make it easier for medical professionals to move to the UK from around the world in order to provide care in the NHS.

It comes after it emerged that almost 5,000 nurses and midwives from EU27 countries have quit the NHS in the past two years, although there was an increase in staff from non-eu countries.

The new NHS Visa will be part of the new points-based immigration system, which the UK will be able to introduce because it is leaving the EU.

The numbers of applicants who are let into the UK will not be capped under the new scheme and fees will reduce from £928 to £464.
