Fans’ verdict on WSL season so far

-

Chelsea Chloe Leadbeater

This has to be one of the closest seasons. It is quite unpredictable, which makes it exciting. Manchester United will not be walkovers, it will be a closely-fought match, but I reckon we will win. We are the ones to beat this season.

Key player Beth England. She is back after a loan to Liverpool and has continued her amazing goalscoring run.

Manchester City Emma Meredith-shone

This is already proving to be one of the most exciting seasons to date, with teams throughout the league showing their competitiveness and quality. I expect West Ham to test us and be hard to break down. To do well in this league, we have to be at our best.

Key player Ellie Roebuck. In the absence of injured Karen Bardsley, she has helped City make a strong start.

Arsenal Marissa Thomas

The league is more competitive this season and with the two promoted teams both performing well, no team can take their place for granted. Arsenal’s progress in the Champions League could put them at a disadvantage in the league, and it will test their squad depth. I think they will finish second this season behind Chelsea.

Key player Vivianne Miedema. She has great game intelligence, drive and eye for goal.

Everton Ella Davies

It is great to see the women’s game getting more exposure. I am ever the optimist when it comes to being an Everton fan. I hope to see us challenge the top two and, as it stands, it is not impossible. The team are filled with young and ambitious players.

Key player Chloe Kelly. She is our top scorer after returning well from ankle surgery earlier this year.

Manchester United Natalie Burrell

It has been an incredibly competitive season with the addition of ourselves and Spurs. You cannot call games any more, as high standards are being set by all teams. Chelsea are a fantastic side. I would take a draw on Sunday, but we can win. We have beaten City in the cup, so we can compete with the best.

Key player Millie Turner. She has had a great start to the campaign with five wins and five clean sheets, and has been a rock at the back.

Birmingham City Chris Pugh

It has been a tough start to the league campaign for us, but we have been improving every game, culminating in the recent victory over Liverpool. Brighton had a great start to their campaign, but I believe we can head back up to the Midlands with a positive result on Sunday, giving us the confidence to enjoy a comfortable mid-table finish.

Key player Lucy Staniforth. Her attitude and performance have been really impressive.

Reading Sam Storey

We have had a decent start, winning the matches we would expect, although two defeats by the Manchester clubs have meant a gap to the big three has opened up. Bristol City at home tomorrow is ultimately a game we need to win if we want to challenge for the top four.

Key player Fara Williams. While the squad are strong as ever, even some of the players might admit she carries this team at times.

Brighton Alan Wares

There has been a clear step up in quality across the domestic game, and we have needed to raise our game. The team are competing, but need to put chances away. The rest of the season is going to be very tough, but the improvements Hope Powell has made ought to bear fruit soon.

Key player Fliss Gibbons – as she has been for three seasons. A wholehearted left-back who converted from being a forward.

Tottenham Sian Wallis

Spurs are performing well and showing we have a squad with the quality to be competitive. Whatever the result against Arsenal, so long as the players play with heart as they have been, we will enjoy ourselves. I am pretty optimistic. Survival will be enough but mid-table is attainable.

Key player Anna Filbey. She has formed a strong partnership with Hannah Godfrey in the centre of defence.

Bristol City Richard Paish

It is incredibly frustrating having just two points from our opening five games. I am also concerned about facing Reading, as we have lost our last five games against them. I feel we will be part of the relegation dogfight. In the bigger picture, it is good to see a few of our former managers and players at Everton having a good start to the season.

Key player Returning fan favourite Jas Matthews has been superb in defence for us.

Liverpool Heather Owens

I have enjoyed this season more than others as you can watch games you cannot get to on the FA Player. I am not sure how I feel about the Merseyside derby. A loss for us would be detrimental. It should be a fantastic match to watch. I sincerely hope Liverpool come out on top to earn our first win of the season.

Key player Anke Preuss. She was an incredible addition and continues to shine.

West Ham Jo Bailey

We had seven new signings at the beginning of the season, so it has been exciting watching us blossom. It is going to be a tough match this weekend, Manchester City are a quality side. We will throw everything at them and as long as we keep pushing, we will be in with a chance.

Key player Martha Thomas. She is an intelligent player and is improving with every match.
