Secretary, 89, wins payout for ageism
♦ The oldest worker ever to sue successfully for age discrimination was awarded £200,000 after winning her case against the NHS, it can be revealed.
Eileen Jolly, 89, a medical secretary, said she felt “humiliated” when she was dismissed over claims that she could not use a computer. Managers at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust had also made “inappropriate and hurtful” comments about her age and health.
An employment tribunal found her case was “tainted by discrimination and was harassment related to age and disability”.
The trust offered her an out-of-court settlement.
