sir – I have received two election leaflets from the Labour candidate for my constituency. In both, he claims that Labour has prioritised shipyard and defence workers, as well as the Dreadnought replacement for Trident. I have challenged this twice by email, with no response. Perhaps this might prompt a reply. Charles Penfold

sir – I emailed my local Labour MP, Nick Brown, as follows: “I would like to know if the new taxes imposed on capital gains and dividends will also apply to ISAS.” I have yet to receive a reply. Perhaps he does not know, or does not want us to know. Peter Jones

sir – If Jeremy Corbyn abolishes zero-hour contracts, he will destroy many jobs, including mine.

I work as a part-time steward at an entertainment venue. We are paid the London living wage, with holiday pay based on hours worked the previous month. We do not, however, receive sickness pay.

As far as I am aware, all of the stewards and bar staff are delighted with their zero-hours-contract job. Most of us are students, are trying to make it in music or another creative industry, have day jobs or (as in my case) are pensioners and work where we do for the extra money and, equally importantly, because we love it.

If zero-hour contracts were abolished, this fantastic venue – which is also a charity – could no longer operate, leading to a loss of jobs and of much-needed funding. Marcia Macleod
