Foggier forecasts when you can’t see for miles

SIR – Further to Sherelle Jacobs’s article on the BBC (December 20), one has only to listen to the BBC Radio 4 weather forecast on foggy days to realise how out of touch it has become.

Why do the forecaster­s refer to visibility in metres, when our legal highway distance measuremen­ts are in miles, yards, feet and inches?
