Football racism

sir – Everyone knows a government inquiry into racism in football (Sport, December 23) would take a long time, cost millions and achieve nothing.

Football should conduct and pay for its own wide-ranging and thorough investigation. It will, no doubt, accomplish the same result. Shaun Whyte

sir – The answer to appalling racist behaviour is for both teams to walk off the pitch immediately. The spectators would, in annoyance at losing their game, identify the culprits, who could no longer hide in the crowd, and would be dealt with by the authorities. Daphne Clarke
