Adoption figures down after Brexit ‘turbulence’

-

An adoption charity hopes more children will be given homes after the “turbulence” of Brexit meant the issue had “slipped off the agenda”.

Carol Homden, the chief executive of Coram, urged potential adopters to come forward, after figures showed adoption had fallen for the fourth year in a row. In the year ending March 31, 3,570 children were adopted, down 7 per cent from 2018 and a third from a peak of 5,360 in 2015. The Department for Education said £46 million had been set aside to prioritise adoption.
