Council warns of gun store ‘civil disorder’

-

♦a proposed gun shop next door to a village pub could lead to “civil disorder”, a parish council has claimed.

Residents in Dunkirk, Kent, raised concerns over the plans by Kent Gunsmiths Ltd for the shop next to the Red Lion pub.

Dunkirk parish council also opposed the application but it was granted by Swale borough council.

A parish council spokesman said this month: “Concerns were raised on the proximity of weapons to licensed premises, which could lead to civil disorder.

“There is access to the A2 arterial roadway only a few metres away, and the ease of escape, if raided, must be considered.”

Neil May, owner of Kent Gunsmiths Ltd, said he operates his business from a farm, but wanted to move into a shop to make his business more viable.
