Cryptocurrency comeback

Libra, Facebook’s digital currency project, is pegged for a launch in 2020. Using blockchain-like technology, it is expected to feature on Facebook apps as a way to send and receive money.

Central banks fear it could threaten the dominance of sovereign currencies, should Facebook release its own Zuck-buck.

Why? Facebook could launch Libra to more than 2bn people in a fell swoop.

Why not? Regulators have demanded Facebook halt Libra until the plans have been examined. Potential partners have pulled out.
