Do tell – have I missed anything good on TV?

-

An article the other day announced that we live in a golden age of cinema, despite being citizens of the Netflix epoch. Er, yeah, right. I was away over Yule, and even just a week off the small-screen has left me culturally compromised.

Streaming-wise, I’ve missed The Witcher, aka the new Game of Thrones, series two of teenage/kidult essential You, and potential Oscar-winner The Two Popes. And I still haven’t caught up with Marriage Story, The Morning Show and Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings.

This Christmas, over on terrestrial television, I had been planning to watch Gavin & Stacey, Dracula and The Trial of Christine Keeler. I am also woefully late embracing the phenomenon that is Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

Meanwhile, in terms of cinema-going, I harbour a longing to see Little Women and Cats, knowing that I can only be disappointed by one, ecstatic about the other, but not for the reasons intended. And even then I’d find myself surrounded by slurp ’n’ burp cinema slobs, so is this even worth leaving the house for, despite the catnip that is Taylor Swift?

While television has become hard work for all the right reasons, cinema is hard work for all the wrong ones. I’ve decided that the only way forward is a group in which I and a posse of people whose taste I share trade tips. My offering of 2019, 2020 and ever onward is Succession. If you haven’t succumbed, you truly must. In return, can you tweet or Instagram me and tell me what I’m missing out on? Meanwhile, happy new year. You’ll find me watching The Witcher.
