Sixteen-year-old killer of Uber Eats rider is named

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

A JUDGE has decided to name a 16-year-old who murdered an Uber Eats scooter rider in the street in front of a café full of onlookers, because of public concern over “youth homicide and street crime”.

Three males aged 19, 17 and 16 have been jailed for a total of 28 and a half years for beating Brazilian Iderval Da Silva, 46, to death. The victim was spotted by a gang of nine youths on bikes when he parked outside Primo café in Battersea, south-west London, on the bank holiday of May 25 last year.

He had left his keys in the ignition and 16-year-old Tay Clovey jumped on the bike and tried to ride away on it.

Da Silva, a former soldier who came to Britain to start his own martial arts school, tried to push him off, but was punched in the face. A 17-year-old then ran along the street to attack Da Silva, who ended up on the ground.

Jaden Richards, 19, joined in the attack as the victim was punched, kicked and stamped on in front of horrified café customers in an area where terrace houses sell for in excess of £1.5million.

He suffered catastrophic brain injuries and was pronounced dead three days later with his son by his side.

Jurors convicted Richards and Clovey of murder, while a 17-year-old was found guilty of manslaughter. The three defendants appeared in the dock in handcuffs because security officers feared they would fight.

Judge Mark Dennis told the killers: “The victim was defenceless, outnumbered and struck while he was on the ground. The sudden outbreak of violence was witnessed by members of the public and left them shocked and frightened and ended with the senseless death of a person who had done nothing wrong and only tried to stop someone stealing his property.”

The judge ordered that 16-year-old Clovey should be named, saying: “The public is particularly concerned about youth homicide and street crime.”
