Prisoner with one day left handed three more years

A prisoner just one day away from release will stay behind bars for three more years after being caught with a makeshift weapon.

Steven Bangs, 37, had improvised a knife by pushing a nail into the casing of a pen in his cell at HMP Thameside. He was at the end of an eight-month term for possession of an offensive weapon, but was sentenced after being caught with the item in December.
