An 80-year-old grandmother is believed to be the first patient in Britain to die after contracting coronavirus in a hospital.
Marita Edwards was admitted to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, South Wales, for a routine gallbladder operation at the end of February.
She caught an infection during her three-week stay, which the family were initially told was pneumonia, it is claimed. Mrs Edwards tested positive for Covid-19 last Thursday and died the next day, according to her family.
