One in 20 has been put out of work due to outbreak

One in 20 Britons has lost their job due to the coronaviru­s crisis, according to a new survey by Yougov.

Some 5 per cent of those questioned were employed before the outbreak and have since lost their job, while 9 per cent have had their pay or hours reduced.

In the study of 3,000 people, on Monday and yesterday, 87 per cent said that measures to calm the outbreak needed to be taken more seriously by the public.

Half of the nation (51 per cent) said they feel worse about the state of society as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and one in three (32 per cent) said they fear for their future.
