Tourists stuck on holiday islands

-

A student called Paige is stuck on the holiday island of Siargao, with four friends. Holly Hunt, another tourist, said she was in a similar situation in Boracay.

The Philippine government organised flights to the major airports at Manila and Clark but denied boarding to anyone without an onward ticket. “This happened to us and we are now stranded,” she said. “The UK Government has been useless.”

“Some got out after paying thousands for flights. Others were forced to sleep outside Clark airport, while some forked out for multiple flights which were all cancelled.”

Germany helped repatriate its citizens, while Britons remained under strict quarantine,” Ms Hunt said.

“It’s very scary knowing that we may be stuck here for the foreseeable in the hope this settles down.”
