Tamás Yvan Topolánszky has directed an excellent addition to the “films about films” subgenre, winning Best Film at the 2018 Montréal World Film Festival. It looks at Hungarianborn American film director Michael Curtiz grappling with personal and political headaches while shooting Casablanca in 1942. America’s position on the brink of war is reflected on set, as disaster piles on disaster.
