Strange ban on Hansom cabs in the Royal Parks

- Daniel Bamford

sir – Thank you for bringing to readers’ attention the “at-risk” status of the Hackney breed of horses (Leading Article, April 8).

I am glad that the piece made reference to Sherlock Holmes, who made frequent fictional use of Hansom safety cabs drawn by Hackney horses.

There is a long-running campaign by the Sherlock Holmes Museum to obtain a licence to drive its own

Hansom cab through the Royal Parks of London.

I was interested to discover that Prince Charles is a patron of the Hackney Horse Society.

Perhaps the Prince of Wales as heir to the throne could come to the aid of the Sherlock Holmes Museum and support its Hansom cab campaign.
