German region ends gathering limit

A German region is to lift all limits on the number of people who can meet as it effectively ends its lockdown, it said yesterday.

The eastern state of Thuringia is shifting from a compulsory lockdown to offering advice to people on how to protect themselves from this weekend.

“The new regulations rely on more personal responsibility,” Heike Werner, the regional health minister, said. Social distancing will remain mandatory.
