Travel and trials

sir – I recently put my name forward for the Oxford University coronavirus vaccine trials.

As my annual travel insurance was due for renewal, I checked and was disappointed to be informed that, if I were to enter the trials, I could not be insured. I checked with several other companies and was told the same thing, although the Association of British Insurers says on its website that being on a clinical trial should not affect one’s eligibility or cost. I wonder how many other would-be volunteers have been similarly dissuaded.
